The Rock Tunnels Tour let's you step back in history. Experience Gibraltar from 40,000 BC when Neanderthals were in Gibraltar in St Michael's cave, a place visited by ancient Greeks, Romans and Phoenicians. Wander through 19th Century Siege Tunnels and then step back in time to World War II history and the extroadinary tunnel system which makes Gibraltar a defensive fortress!

The Pillars of Hercules

The 1st attraction of this tour is the famous Pillars of Hercules. At the Pillars you will enjoy the magnificent views of North Africa, looking out across the sea. You will see where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea a view point above Europa Point.

St Michael's Cave

Next we'll drive up to explore St Michael's Cave! This is an amazing, natural, phenomenon which sees thousands of visitors a year wandering through its huge caverns.

Top of The Rock!

The Great Siege Tunnels!

From there we will drive to the north side of the Rock to visit the Great Siege Tunnels, something not to be missed! This site explains a lot of the history of Gibraltar under siege in the 18th century. The tunnels are full of tales from the historic wars and information on how the tunnels were carved out and the stories behind the people involved in their use.

World War 2 Tunnels

The most intensive phase of tunnelling in Gibraltar's history came during the Second World War, when the territory played a vital role in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean theatres. The total length of the tunnels increased greatly during the war, from 7 miles (11 km) to 25 miles (40 km).

At the start of the war, the civilian population was evacuated and numerous new tunnels were excavated to create accommodation for the expanded garrison and to store huge quantities of food, equipment and ammunition.

You'll be able to walk through sections of these tunnels to see how the army's operations were carried out, where the soldiers slept and the rooms created for supplies and storage. Enjoy a headset and audio guide to truly take in all the history of these World War II tunnels.

Finally, on the drive down to your drop-off point, we'll see the outside of Moorish Castle and the old town of Gibraltar. This was a medieval fortification with a huge history with tales of wars, pirates and more!

Bow-Riding

Bow-riding is the most common behaviour usually seen onboard our dolphin trips. This behaviour is when the dolphins get close to the vessel to interact with the waves playfully. The Dolphin pods typically do this to enhance their bond as a pod and strengthen their muscles. However, this is usually joyful and playful behaviour.

Tail Slapping

The dolphins use this behaviour to communicate with other members of the pod. This is usually done when the dolphin is swimming upside down.

The dolphins flick their tails on the water to make the desired vibrations that other dolphins will interpret.

The theory is that dolphins use this method to distract calves that could have been disturbed by passing vessels. This is a reassurance communication tool.

Breaching

This behaviour is when the dolphin is seen racing out of the water vertically. The Dolphins are accustomed to vessels, so this is one of their preferred party tricks to get their attention.

A breach may be full-bodied or partial and is considered a social, playful and communication behaviour.

Breaching is also considered a behaviour that reinforces relationships between pod members and improves communication and muscles.

Next we'll drive up to explore St Michael's Cave! This is an amazing, natural, phenomenon which sees thousands of visitors a year wandering through its huge caverns.

O'Hara's Battery

O'Hara's Battery is an artillery battery in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It is located at the highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar.

Top of The Rock!

After this your private tour guide will drive you to The Top of the Rock where you will see breathtaking views of Gibraltar. Here we will spend some time with our famous Monkeys up close. You'll see them play together, where they eat, groom each other, and if you're lucky.. one might climb on your back making for some unique photo opportunities!

Skywalk Glass Viewing Platform

At The Top of the Rock you'll also be able to experience the Skywalk Glass Viewing Platform. Inaugurated by Star Wars star Mark Hamill, you'll be standing on sea-through glass above a huge drop admiring the east-side views of Gibraltar.

Windsor Suspension Bridge

On the 21st June 2016 Chief Minister Fabian Picardo opened the Windsor Suspension Bridge along the Royal Anglian Way. The 71 meter long bridge connects an abandoned battery with the Hayne's Cave Battery crossing a 50 meter deep ravine. Always great for adventure enthusiasts and photo opportunities!

The Great Siege Tunnels!

From there we will drive to the north side of the Rock to visit the Great Siege Tunnels, something not to be missed! This site explains a lot of the history of Gibraltar under siege in the 18th century. The tunnels are full of tales from the historic wars and information on how the tunnels were carved out and the stories behind the people involved in their use.

The Moorish Castle

The construction of which was commenced in the 8th century AD (possibly AD 711) but there is no record of when it was completed. Its walls enclose a considerable area reaching down to Town. The Tower of Homage is the highest tower of the period of Islamic rule in the Iberian Peninsula, and the Qasbah of the Castle is the largest in the area. The Castle itself played a prominent part in the Muslim invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. Part of the castle itself housed the prison of Gibraltar until the prison was relocated in 2010.

City Under Siege Exhibition

The various exhibits within this area of great historical value depict scenes of how the civilian population lived during those hard times and relate the quaint and often fascinating stories that have passed down to our days of how the first British settlers of Gibraltar had to cope with life.

World War 2 Tunnels

The most intensive phase of tunnelling in Gibraltar's history came during the Second World War, when the territory played a vital role in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean theatres. The total length of the tunnels increased greatly during the war, from 7 miles (11 km) to 25 miles (40 km).

The 100 Ton Gun

The late 1800's saw 4 of these giants built by the naval authorities of Britain, with a view to securing their holdings. 2 were built for Gibraltar, while another 2 were built for Malta.

Europa Point

Situated at the most southern point of Gibraltar, is where the Europa Point Lighthouse can be found along with spectacular views across The Straits of Gibraltar into Northern Africa, Morocco.

Here we will give you between 1 to 1.30hrs depending on the time that has been consumed at the sites in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. So you may have lunch wonder through the narrow streets of our enchanting old town, you may also do some shopping in the Main Street area.
